Clif Builder’s Bar Review: Chocolate Mint

September 11, 2014 by theunmanlychef

15198103471_d3fdf666a1_zNext up in the health bar product review series, is the Clif Builder’s Bar, specifically the flavor of Chocolate Mint. Clif Bars are wildly popular and I have to say as far as meal replacement bars go they are one of the more solid options you can choose from.

The protein bar world is a whole different animal with competitors coming from every seedy corner of the universe (that’s right protein bar manufacturing is an INTERGALACTIC struggle).

Almost every protein bar I’ve ever had is disappointing. I will say that the Detour brand is probably the best one out there for their  Whey Protein Bar 9-1.5oz (43g) Bars Caramel Peanut Sport Performance Bars .

This one though. This one comes close. It at least competes at the same level. Now not every flavor of Builder’s bar product line is great. I’ve had other flavors and they fall flat. But the Chocolate Mint Flavor, it’s something else folks. Here’s my review:

Appearance: It has a nice candy bar feel to it. Looks like a candy bar. We’re off to a good start!

Nutritional Value: This is a great post workout meal if you are on the run or if you need a quick snack. It has 270 Calories, 20g of Protein, 31g of Carbs. 100% of your daily Vitamin C, 25% of Calcium, 25% of Iron, 25% of Vitamin K, and even more. It’s fairly chock full of good stuff. It’s protein form is a soy protein isolate which is a complete protein. But there have been studies coming out against soy protein, so choose at your own discretion. I don’t eat these enough for it to have any effect on me.

Taste:  Let’s get down to business. The taste, because it can have all the good ingredients in the world. If it doesn’t taste good, I’m not eating it, sorry. The bar has a great crunch and flavor consistency. It has a strong minty flavor, with a great after taste. There are no weird flavors that overpower it like other bars. Think of the strong minty flavor like a Junior Mint encasing an entire Clif Bar.

Final Grade: A

If you want to try this for yourself go buy it here. Clif Bar Builder’s Bar, Chocolate Mint, 2.4-Ounce Bars, 12 Count
