Cats are all over the internet and are a guaranteed way to drive some internet traffic to this page, so let me just start off by saying CATS CATS CATS CATS, CAT VIDEOS, GRUMPY CAT (okay hopefully that’s satisfied enough search engine indexers.)
Catfish is a fish I do not have a ton of experience cooking with. You could say I’ve been Cat…Fished….(who doesn’t love pop culture based food humor!)
For this dish I just wanted something simple that wouldn’t stink my house up. I like Cajun spices on my seafood. The spicy salty flavor of the seasoning helps mask the taste of the fish (which can sometimes be too fishy for my liking, even when it’s fresh).
Catfish is a cheap fish that is usually readily available. I was surprised by how flavorful and light it tasted. Don’t shy away from Catfish.
Recipe
Ingredients
1 Catfish Filet
2 Tbsp. of Cajun Spice Mix (I used a J.O. Company Mix)
2 Tbsp. Olive Oil
Method
Coat your filet with olive oil and the spice mix. Make sure the filet is well coated with the oil and spice mix.
This can be grilled or pan seared. I grilled this, make sure your grill is super hot. Grease your grates using a grill spray. Place your filets on the grill, cook it for about 2 or 3 minutes on each side. Make sure that the filet is cooked enough that you can flip it. Flip it too early and you might have a mess of fish on your hands. I recommend waiting longer than cutting it short.
Flip your filet only once, and serve with some fresh squeezed lime. Enjoy!
