Product Review: Clif Mojo Bar Chocolate Almond and Coconut Flavor

October 30, 2014 by theunmanlychef

Clif Mojo Bar
The Granola Bar world is a dicey world chock full of imposters, posers, and wannabes. Some use buzzwords like ALL NATURAL or HEALTHY to rope you in, but they’re really not anything better than a candy bar.
Granola bars were the health food of my youth, you would be hard pressed to find a 90’s kid who didn’t have a Chewy Bar in his/her lunch box. But our dear hippy offspring of a bar has hit on rough times. Protein is the king of the food world now, and grains have been banished to the dark corners of the food universe, only to be used as a topping on some sort of crumble. Well, I’m here to tell you that there is hope yet for the Granola Bar. I present to you, Clif’s Mojo Trail Mix Bar. It’s is exactly what you want your granola bar to be, especially this flavor which is Dark Chocolate, Almond, and Coconut.
So let’s get to the review:
Taste:  As soon as you bite into this you realize you made a good choice. The crunch texture of the granola balances with the chewyness brought on by the coconut. It has the perfect balance of coconut to granola so neither flavor is overpowering this flavor. It’s not overly sugary where you think you are eating a dessert, but it does have a satisfying aftertaste to help you with that sweet tooth craving.
Nutrition: Let’s be clear it’s not for the Paleo or Atkins folks. But if you don’t have to follow the latest food doctrine and just eat a balanced healthy diet, this is not the worst decision you can make on a work day where you just want something sweet. It’s 200 Calories, it has 8 grams of protein, 6 grams of unsaturated fats, and 3 grams of dietary fiber.
Overall: Another solid effort put forth by the people over at Clif. I’m not really surprised they rarely put out a terrible product. Overall Grade is an A, it would be an A+ if it had more protein somehow.
