Sugar Plum Jam

December 17, 2014 by theunmanlychef

Sugar Plum Jam

When you think of Sugar Plums, you immediately think of Christmas. Well at least sugar plum fairies, that’s a thing right? I’ve never really had sugar plums before until I started getting them in my basket every week from Friends and Farms.

By themselves they are sometimes tart & sweet, but we always we get way too much. So making a jam is the next best thing to preserving them and not letting them go to waste.

What’s the difference between a jam and a jelly you ask? Well a jelly is just pectin and fruit juice typically, while a jam or preserve uses the entire fruit. Jams are a nice cheap gift to give to folks if you are strapped for cash.

Recipe

Ingredients

2 lb Sugar Plums (Pitted)

2 Cups Sugar

4 Cups of Water

Method

Cut your sugar plums in half to pit them. Place them in a large pot.  Pour your sugar over the plums, depending on your preference for sweetness you can add more. Now more the water over plums.

Heat the plums for 4-5 hours until the plums and water thicken to a nice syrupy mixture. If you want it to be more like a preserve add some more water.

Enjoy!
