National Granola Bar Day: Michele’s New Granola Bars

January 21, 2015 by theunmanlychef

This is a sponsored post, all thoughts and opinions are my own

It’s National Granola Bar Day! Yes that’s actually a thing!

One of my dreams has recently come true. Okay well may be that’s a stretch, but one of my top food requests has come to fruition. Michele’s Granola has come out with a…..wait for it…. GRANOLA BAR!

When they asked me to review their product I was over the moon with excitement. I have always wanted them to make granola bars and the fact that they finally dipped their toes into the granola bar pool has got me giddy. I’ve written about their product in the past, it’s the BEST granola you can buy.

Some fun facts before we get to the review, Michele’s is a local company based in Timonium, MD. They began in early 2006 as a one woman show. It has now developed into a thriving business that prepares over 8,000 pounds of granola…EACH WEEK! By hand no less!

All of her products are all-natural, GMO-free, and organic. Their facility is 100% wind powered and over 80% of their waste is either recycled or given for local composting. So they definitely are all about doing things the right way and contributing their local community rather than taking.

You can currently find their products in many local grocery stores and on their online store.

So now onto the review!

The box you see above came with three different flavors: Original, Lemon Pistachio, and Banana Walnut.

The original flavor is very satisfying, it has a really good mild flavor and has an excellent crunch. This great crunch is consistent with all of the bars. The nice part about this bar is that you can break it up if you want for a breakfast on the go by mixing into your yogurt.

The Lemon Pistachio flavor was something unexpected it has a pleasant flavor. The citrus flavor of the lemon hits at the end of the bite. You see nice chunks of pistachio in the bar, this was one was slightly too lemony for me. Overall though this was still a solid flavor, but definitely the other two flavors were my favorite.

The Banana Walnut flavor was by far the best flavor I thought. This was like a banana nut crunch cereal granola bar. I love that flavor, so this was a huge hit. I asked the folks over at Michele’s why they don’t make this a regular loose granola flavor? That’s because they put real bananas in the bars and it would be too difficult and time consuming to put the real bananas into the loose granola. All of these bars taste like what you would want a nature valley bar to taste like. The crunch is not too hard where it hurts to bite, it’s just enough crunch. The flavor on this bar is excellent and perfectly in balance. There is no strange aftertaste, it is really just granola bar perfection.
