Kitchen Playlist 2/5/15

February 5, 2015 by theunmanlychef

I’ve been slacking and I haven’t given you a kitchen playlist yet for February. Well, I finally mustered up enough energy to put one of these bad boys together. In this week’s list we have some indie gems from last year, a few years ago, and Iranian indie rock band from a few years back.

Remember the point of this is so you can impress all your friends with your diverse and excellent music taste. Who doesn’t love dropping some music on folks? At the very least, you will get to try some new songs that have already rose to prominence in the indie world.

So enjoy! Again all of these songs can be purchased on iTunes or Spotify. The links will take you to their Spotify listing.

1 – Bad Books – Forest Whitaker – Who doesn’t love songs with song titles about iconic Hollywood actors of the last three decades?

2-  Caesars – We Got To Leave – You might remember this band from the early iPod commercials from the mid 2000’s and their song “Jerk it Out”. But beneath the veneer of a hip “Apple” commercial band, was a Swedish band with a catalog of awesome songs. This song has a fast paced beat and a catchy tune.

3- Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – If You Didn’t See Me – This is a song that came out in 2013 and was very popular in alt. music circles. The band name doesn’t have any significance to the race car driver other than the fact that it represents that the band has no limitations….so yeah.. But anyways this song has a fun indie pop sound that will quickly become a favorite.

4- Two Door Cinema Club – Changing of the Season – Two Door Cinema has a ton of good songs. This Northern Ireland band, has been consistently putting out some great songs for the past couple of years. This is just one of many great songs these guys put out.

5- Saint Motel – My Type – The beginning of this song is so damn catchy that I had to put it on the list. Evidently these guys have been around for awhile, but this song recently came out in late 2014.

6- Take it Easy Hospital – Human Jungle – This is a Iranian Indie Rock band. I’m not quite sure if they are still together. The only reason I know about them is because they are featured in the film “No One Knows About Persian Cats” I highly recommend you see this film if you want to know anything about the music scene in Iran. The band members play themselves in this film that features other real Iranian indie rock bands like the Yellowdogs. In this movie you learn about Iranian rap, rock, and punk through the lens of the actual musicians themselves. I think you can watch it on Netflix.

7- In the Valley Below – Peaches – Great catchy yet haunting beat to this song. It’s been around for a while, but some of the alt. radio stations are starting to take note.

8- Chad Valley – Shell Suite – This has a chillwave synthpop sound. The singer is from Birmingham, UK. Fun song, give it a listen.

9- Father John Misty – Chateau Lobby # 4 – A Maryland native, Father John Misty, used to be in the band Fleet Foxes, which has now since disbanded. This is a fun folksy song with a catchy beat.

10- Dr. Dog – Heart it Races – Another fun song that’s actually a cover. You will enjoy it.
