The Kitchen Playlist has returned! Another week of awesome tunes you can listen to while you are cooking in the kitchen. Although, that doesn’t mean you can’t listen to these awesome songs at any other time of the day. Let’s jump right into it, and remember all these songs can be found on Spotify or iTunes. The links will take you to their Spotify listing.

- Cold War Kids – First – Cold War Kids have a great sound and sometimes they can really knock a song out of the park. This song has a fun background clap that makes it sound like a song that they would close a concert with.

- Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Multi-Love – This New Zealand/ Portland Oregon based band has a really unique sound. They’ve toured with Grizzly Bear and have put a few albums before this one. But this latest one which includes this track is really good. Multi-love has a fun sound, the background riff of this song sort of sounds like the theme song to Mad Men. It has sort of a Blood Orange sound…that’s a good thing.

- Purity Ring – Begin Again – This an electronic music duo from Canada. Purity Ring is really taking off right now on the indie music radio stations. They just released their new album Another Eternity, this song is off of this latest album. It has a great driving beat and builds to a great chorus. Really good workout song.

- The Vaccines – Handsome – The Vaccines are like Interpol on speed. They are absolutely huge over in the U.K. (see Platinum Selling Albums), but for some reason they haven’t really exploded over here despite opening for some huge acts. I discovered them for myself back in 2011, and I’ve remained a fan. This song is fast, poppy, and just has a great sound. You can sing along and tap your feet to this fun song. Definitely look into these guys.

-Leon Bridges – Coming Home – This song is straight out of 1960’s Motown. If you close your eyes you’ll think you’ve taken a time machine back to the 60’s. But Leon Bridges isn’t from the 1960’s, he’s an up and coming artist out of Texas. He’s going to be a huge star, I’m calling it now. This song is a slow jam that you can really unwind too. Get on top of this track before all of your friends do. It’s already making its rounds on Spotify & SiriusXM

-Lower Dens – To Die in LA – This is a local band out of Baltimore with an incredible sound. The lead singer sounds like the singer from Beach House, she has a haunting yet powerful voice. This song has a fun sound with an almost 80’s pop sound to it.

-The Orwells – Who Needs You – Discover what Apple and its iPad already have, The Orwells. You’ve probably heard this song on the Apple iPad commercial. This band has a awesome garage indie rock sound. It’s rock and roll at its finest.

-Toro y Moi – Empty Nesters – This is a one man group, with a distinctive sound. Toro y Moi is one of the bands that some folks pinpoint to the rise of chillwave sound. A friend of mine who saw him live said he has a trippy concert and puts on a great show. Sounds about right. This song has a Flaming Lips sound to it, it’s a fun and poppy song.

-The Do – Trustful Hands – This is a French/Finnish band that is already popular in France. Their latest album rose to number 7 on their music charts, and number 1 on their digital charts. This song has a unique sound and their vocals have a really distinctive sound. Like many French bands they love to use the keyboard with an 80’s sound, and I love it.

-Amason – Kelly – This Swedish band just released their first album in Sweden and are quickly gaining popularity. This group is a Swedish supergroup formed by members of Miike Snow, among other Swedish bands. This song has a fun almost spanish guitar riff mixed with a chillwave electronic vibe. This song is pure awesome.  Oh yeah and there is a saxophone solo in it. It rules, and also who doesn’t love name based songs?
