RawSpice Bar Japanese Spices

May 7, 2015 by theunmanlychef

This is a sponsored post, all thoughts and opinions are my own

RawSpiceBar is back! The fun monthly spice subscription brings you delicious spices each month. RawSpiceBar is a cheap and affordable spice subscription plan that offers its clients an opportunity each month to cook with exotic spices, they would otherwise not have access to.

This past month, it was Japanese spices, and ooooh baby, they are good. Typically Japanese cuisines uses a variety of liquids whether it be soy sauce, rice wine, and or vinegar to season foods. But despite maybe the limited  array of spices used in Japanese cusine, the spices that are used create a very unique flavor, that is geared towards eliminating the strong flavor of fish. As a result you get umami all the time. That’s a good thing.

First up, we had Shichimi Togarashi, which is a blend of chiles, black peppercorns, orange peel, and seaweed. It’s like an umami feast, it’s the perfect compliment for a steak or meat dish you want to cook.

Next we had, Spicy Gomasio, it’s another spice blend of salt, chiles, and sesame seeds. The delicious blend is perfect on a salad or rice.

Lastly I received, Matcha & Chia, Matcha is everywhere right now,it’s grounded up green tea. It adds a magical green color to baked goods, so you’re seeing it all over the interwebs right now. It adds a great unique flavor to any baked good.
