No Fry BBQ Chicken Wings

June 22, 2015 by theunmanlychef

BBQ Chicken Wings

Chicken wings are delicious and easy to prepare. On top of that they’re usually the cheapest chicken option at the supermarket so they are a cheap solution to party appetizers or dinner.

As a kid growing up I’ll be honest I wasn’t a huge fan of hot wings. Why? Because I think as a kid you just naturally hate spicy things, the child palate seems to be extra sensitive and spicy things did not sit well with me. So I always gravitated towards the BBQ chicken wing variety instead of the hot wing. KFC Boneless Chicken Wings were always a favorite, but then again I don’t think that’s unique to me. Who doesn’t love deep fried wing meat in a sugary sauce.

I decided to use my new favorite technique of cooking chicken wings, i.e. the baking powder method, to see if they would turn out well with BBQ sauce. And shocker, they turned out good!

This dish is simple and easy to make, if you don’t want to be fancy you do not have to make your own BBQ sauce obviously. The sauce recipe I’ve provided is pretty much a stock BBQ sauce recipe that you can use for any dish that asks for a standard BBQ sauce.

These wings are great and keep well, if you decide to re-heat them at some point I would put them back in the oven so the skin can crisp up again. Anything crispy tends to get soggy when it goes in the fridge.

Recipe – No Fry BBQ Chicken Wings

Ingredients

1lb of Chicken Wings

2 Tbsp. Baking Powder

For the Sauce

1/2 Cup of Ketchup

3 Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar

2 Tbsp. Soy Sauce

2 Tbsp. Brown Sugar

1 Tbsp. Dijon Mustard

1 Tsp. Onion Powder

1 Tsp. Garlic Powder

Method

Pat dry the wings, put in a ziplock bag, then add your baking powder to the wings. Make sure wings are completely covered by the baking powder.

Place the wings on a greased broiler pan.

Bake in the oven at 300 for 30-45 minutes until skin is crispy on exterior. Then increase heat to 400F to get a golden brown exterior.

Mix all of the sauce ingredients together in a mixing bowl, then add to a saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil and turn off the heat.

Once chicken wings are cooked, remove from the broiler pan, place in a large mixing bowl.

Add the sauce and coat the wings well.

Serve and enjoy!
