Alt Larabar- Lemon Pound Cake

July 31, 2015 by theunmanlychef

IMAG0712
When I say Lemon Pound Cake, you immediately think of dreamy fluffy pound cake that has lovely accents of lemon zest in it, topped with a delicious cream cheese icing. Now take that image in your head and smash it with a sledgehammer than flush it down the toilet, then melt it down into nothing.
That’s what a healthy lemon pound cake bar tastes like. The ALT Bar by the folks at Larabar is an alternative to the regular Larabar. GET IT!
Anyways, when you bite into this bar it’s not the flavor that’s bad. The flavor is actually pretty good, pleasant even. It has a mild lemon flavor that leaves a good taste in your mouth. But then it’s all downhill from there, why? Your classic health bar criminal, pea protein. Pea protein is all the rage I guess, but I don’t get it, it tastes like you’re chewing on ball bearings. The bar has a weird consistency that’s not stiff but not soft either, the only way to describe it is, gritty. The whole thing tastes like a crunchy fig newton, which would’ve been great if only the weird pea protein wasn’t there to screw it all up.

My final grade for this is a C. If pea protein is your bag, this could easily be a B.
