People I’ll be frank with you…(you can be Larry. I kid!). No but seriously, all my #bloglife eating has caused me to gain a few LBs. Said LBs are not welcome and the expanding waistline has been downright upsetting, I mean who wants to buy new pants?! Especially fat boy pants at that! So in order to reduce my sentence in fat boy pants prison, I’ve decided to try more healthy things, so you might see some healthier things on the blog. But hey, I’m human, you know I got a cookie post coming up soon too, because #bloglife.
Side note. I feel like my eating is healthy for the most (despite what you see on the blog, I’m not always eating those delicious things), my biggest problem is portion control. Homeboy loves big portion sizes, so no matter if my meal is healthy or not, a entire vat of it will still cause me to gain weight.
Anyways, back to this post. This post is about the breakfast dish that is all the rage on the West Coast and amongst hipster or health conscious ladies. It’s the Acai bowl.
Now many have proclaimed that Acai is a magical fruit that solves all the worlds problem and that it’s also a vaunted “super food.” But hold your horses, there isn’t much science to back up this claim, and Acai is basically just like any other drupe type fruit. It’s good for you, but if you think it’s going to solve all your health problems, you’re going to be in for a huge disappointment. But just because it’s not a miracle food doesn’t mean it doesn’t taste good or that it doesn’t serve a purpose. Acai berries are the fruit of the Acai palm tree which is native to the Americas, in recent years the cultivation of Acai palm has increased due to it’s purported health benefits.
Acai bowls have become popular as a healthy breakfast alternative to the standard items you’re used to. Acai puree is frozen and then blended with other frozen fruit and some milk (or some other liquid) to make a fruity paste that serves like a pseudo healthy ice cream base to be consumed with some other fruits/nut medley. So being the human tub of goo that I am, I decided to give this a shot one morning.
The end result was a delicious and refreshing morning breakfast that was filling. I highly recommend this if you’re looking for a new breakfast food to add to your arsenal. *You’re going to want to make sure your blender can handle all the frozen ingredients, if it’s not mixing, add a little more liquid to it.*
