Peaches & Cream

June 12, 2017 by theunmanlychef

PEACHES! Everybody loves a damn good peach. It’s juicy, sweet, and satisfying. CREAM! Everyone loves cream, unless you have a dairy allergy, but for the most part whenever something has cream in it, invariably, it’s better! So the obvious thing to do would be to combine the two, which for generations people have been doing by making the famous dessert of peaches and cream. My version is insanely simple and really doesn’t take long. But before we get into the recipe, let’s talk peaches. Because who knew they were so interesting?!

First like everything else amazing, peaches have a Persian/Iranian backstory! While they do originate from northwestern China, peaches really got their start in…you guessed it! Iran!

Peaches made their way to Iran via the Silk Road from China and became wildly popular in Iran. It’s said that during the conquests of Alexander the Great that he brought peaches back with him to Europe so that they could get in on the action. The Persian roots of peaches are evident by just looking at the scientific name of peaches, Prunus Persica. Roman’s called peaches Persian Apples (which is funny because apples also come from Central Asia and the then Persian Empire, but whatever Rome! I’ll let you slide this time. So you’re welcome world, you have Persians to thank for peaches!

If you’ve ever bought fresh peaches you’ll know that they are a pain to keep without going bad, that’s because they require very humid and cold conditions to keep without perishing. So because of that limitation (especially in the old days) people will can peaches in sugar water to keep them from going bad. The end result a deliciously sweet creation that’s already a pretty fantastic dessert by itself.

Enter peaches and cream! Preserved peaches are easily accessible everywhere now just about and they’re super affordable. When you top them with some fresh cream you have a decadent creation that is perfectly refreshing for those hot summer days/nights.

You’ll love this recipe, I used bourbon peaches, but you don’t have to.

Step 2- Then proceed to whisk the cream until it’s very thick (i.e. like whipped cream uh duh)

Enjoy!
