Watermelon is the quintessential summer fruit, mentioning it quickly evokes imagery in your head of summertime barbecues and backyard parties with big watermelon wedges to chomp on. But for many watermelon is hmmm…. how do you say…. a pain in the ass? So when you get a watermelon you really want to stretch it as far as you can take it. What do I mean by stretching it? I mean taking every single aspect of the watermelon and doing something with it.
The rind? Make pickles.
The seeds, toast them.
The fruit, eat it.
The white stuff? Juice it.
In the past I’ve made a watermelon drink that involves just blending watermelon with ice, but this watermelon juice that I’ve made is a touch different. There’s no ice and there’s no pulp either, it’s just pure unadulterated watermelon heaven (and lots of pure sugar but who cares?!). This drink is ridiculously easy and doesn’t require a juicer, all you do is blend the watermelon in batches and pour it through a fine mesh strainer. The end result is a summer treat that is refreshing and delicious.
- 1 Large Watermelon (cut into chunks)
- Blender
- 1 Fine Mesh Strainer
- 1 Slightly Less Fine Mesh Strainer
- Step 1- Cut watermelon into chunks and blend in batches
- Step 2- Set up a station where your mesh strainers will feed into a large juice container/pitcher
- Step 3- Have the finer mesh strainer directly ontop of your pitcher
- Step 4- Then while holding the semi fine mesh strainer above the fine mesh strainer, pour the liquid into the semi-fine and begin the filtration process. It tends to back up a little, but the end result is a smooth watermelon perfection.
