POH-YO Charcoal Chicken – College Park

October 8, 2018 by theunmanlychef

College Park, Maryland is a foodies dream if you’re into food from different cultures, you can find pretty much the food from so many countries around the world in such a small geographic area. Central American & South American food in College Park is a must when you’re visiting or in town for a meeting, they have some of the tastiest El Salvadorean or Peruvian spots you’ll find in all of Maryland. The reason being that College Park and Prince Georges County has a large Hispanic population, and we’re all fortunate enough that they’ve opened numerous restaurants for us to try.

POH-YO Charcoal Chicken is a favorite among students and for good reason, it’s quick, relatively cheap, and most importantly damn delicious. Located in a tiny strip mall with sparse parking during the lunch rush, POH-YO is your standard Peruvian Chicken joint. We came in for lunch after a meeting for work and it was just what I needed to get through the work day. You order at the counter, I recommend the half chicken with two sides I had the onion salad and plantains. The chicken is smoked well and the flavor is excellent, it was everything you want in Peruvian Chicken. Rotisserie style chicken is hard to screw I’ll be honest.  The sides are all fantastic as well, I went with the red onion salad in hopes of eating a little lighter, but if you want to truly get the experience, order yucca fries and the fried plantains and go to town.

I’m lucky I don’t live in College Park because I would be giving all my money to this place, the food was that satisfying and affordable.

Final Grade: A
