Las Placitas – 14th Street D.C.

December 3, 2018 by theunmanlychef

Las Placitas is my go to restaurant when I’m craving Mexican/El Salvadorean food when I go to D.C. It’s located right on 14th street in a sleepier part of the city, but that doesn’t stop them from producing some really delicious food. I’ve yet to be disappointed as their food has always been stellar. I’ve always done take-out and generally Mexican/El Salvadorean food doesn’t always translate perfectly as take-out as I like to eat it piping hot, but the quality has always remained consistent.

The restaurant itself is cozy and it really fits the neighborhood gem narrative. The menu is not expansive but not small either, all of your standard issue favorites are on the menu, I tend to side towards the Pupusa end of the menu but everything is really good. The only disappointing thing has been the fact that they don’t seem to have the Pollo Alla Brasa despite having it on their menu (at least the one we had). But I’m willing to let it slide, because everything else is really good.

The pupusas are divine, we went with the revuelta and the regular queso, both were stellar. From there we had the yucca con chicharron which was just like you want it. Crispy yucca chunks married with juicy yet crispy chunks of pork shoulders. Their standard issue Mexican food was good too, there’s not much to get into there other than it’s just like you’d want.

So go nuts and order everything on the menu, you wont be disappointed.
